Week 8
302 days, 6 hours and 20 minutes. That is how long we have been Year 3 children! In that time, we have battled dinosaurs, saved the world from earthquakes and tsunamis, opened an airports, become world famous chocolate businessmen and had lots of fun along the way!
This week we celebrated the end of the school year by taking part in our Summer Assembly. It was a hot one, so we helped cool everyone down with some frozen watermelon popsicles!

This week we celebrated the end of the school year by taking part in our Summer Assembly. It was a hot one, so we helped cool everyone down with some frozen watermelon popsicles!
Our Summer Assembly was a huge success. We danced, we sang and we shared poems about the summer. All in all, a perfect way to end a wonderful year.
Goodbye to Year 3, hello to summer! Happy holidays!
Week 7
With the finish line approaching, it was time to get down to business. The business of chocolate making! To finish off our Young Entrepreneurs topic, we used our business plans to create our own chocolate bars!
Our next decision will be either to sell the chocolate bars for lots of money, or eat them ourselves? But, hopefully coming to a sweet shop near you soon: Venus Bar, Pump Bar and Bar-a-Dar!
Mr McNab was cruel enough to give us difficult division work at the end of the week. But, the good news was that we were dividing M&Ms! The even better news - our reward for showing good division skills was to eat our counters!
We also did lots of other cool things this week, but unfortunately it's top secret right now. If you want to see what we've been working on, you will have to come to our Summer Assembly on Wednesday 28th June! See you there!
Week 6
Most of our focus this week was on running, jumping, throwing and kicking. After weeks of hard training, Sports Day was finally here!
Our athletic abilities were put to the test in a range of different activities, which were especially difficult in the hot Siberian sun.
For all our Sports Day photographs, please visit School News!
Sports Day also gave us the opportunity to show our Personal Goals!
We also had some visitors to our classroom this week! The children from Foundation popped in to say hello and find out about our favourite food! It is always nice to have guests, especially when they come to talk about food!
Week 5
This week we combined our Maths and business IPC work together to answer one simple question...What would you buy if you had
ONE MILLION POUNDS!
After 'winning the lottery' we thought it would be easy to spend all that money, but we soon realised we had some tough decisions to make. A house? A holiday? Give all our money to Mr McNab?
Ok, maybe not the last one!
We did some internet 'shopping' and then used our super subtraction skills to calculate how much we had left after each purchase.
So, what kind of things did we buy?
Week Four
Our final Assessment Week of Year 3 took up a lot of our time this week. But not enough to stop us taking part in the
Banana Split Challenge!
We were given roles as people involved in producing, picking, shipping, importing and selling bananas! A banana costs 30p and we had to decide how much of that we each deserved, and justify our demands!
Our first attempt to 'split' the 30p didn't quite work. We each gave good reasons why we should get most (or all) of the money!
We decided to negotiate and eventually agreed that everyone should receive an equal share of the money!
Week Three
Our focus this week was international trade. We learned about exporting and importing, and how much profit (or loss) can be made from these new topic words. We even had a turn at importing and exporting during The Trading Game!
Our mission was to trade resources (such as oil and coffee) to try and make as much money as possible.
Congratulations Saudi Arabia, who ended up with the most money!
Congratulations Saudi Arabia, who ended up with the most money!
We also met this strange device this week during our Maths work. It's called a protractor and used it to measure some tricky angles!
Poor Mr McNab had a sore hand this week from putting so many ticks on our work. Maybe we will be nice to him and get lots wrong next week. Or maybe not!
Week Two
This week we started our new IPC topic, Young Entrepreneurs. We are going to be learning how to become businessmen and make lots and lots of money. But before we do that we are going to be learning about the history of money. Did you know, before coins, notes and credit cards people used animals, shells and even deer skins to trade?
We sorted different types of 'money' into chronological order!
In Maths we learned about coordinates this week! We started the week by creating a coordinates grid using chairs, and then moving ourselves around it by following instructions. It was easy to begin with, but eventually with all the numbers and letters flying around it became a little confusing. Good exercise though!
We also put our coordinates skills to work in a tense game of Battleships!
Week One
Our final term began with Health and Safety Week! In Year 3 we focussed on dental hygiene, and we learned how important it is to eat healthy and brush our teeth every day.
To show the importance of looking after our teeth we carried out an experiment! We placed a "tooth" (an egg) inside a cup full of "sugary juice" (vinegar) to see what would happen.
We observed the changes over three days and wrote about them in our scientific reports.
We also learned about the importance of flossing this week, especially when it comes to reaching those small areas between our teeth. We practised our flossing skills by using our fingers, chocolate spread and some string. It was very messy but very fun! The only disappointing part was that we were not allowed to lick our fingers afterwards!
