Our focus this week was food from around the world. When visiting a country, there is always a handful of must try foods out there; dishes, which serve us the flavour, aroma and culture of the country. We looked at traditional food from different countries and matched the images of food to the countries they come from on the map. We created mouth-watering dishes out of craft materials.

We also drew some menus for Chinese, Italian, Indian, Russian and Mexican food restaurants. |
In Maths we explored shapes and sorted out food items by their shape. We made fruit books where we glued numbers and shapes.
|
We practiced our cooking skills by making the Italian dessert tiramisu, Mexican quesadillas and Chinese glass noodles. We really enjoyed being chefs in our International Café. |
Look at us diving into the swimming pool!
Week 4
This week we learned about healthy food. All food is made up of nutrients which our bodies use. Different kinds of food contain different nutrients which is why we labelled a human body with various food items that benefit us. We found out that meat helps our muscles and carrots make our eyes healthy! We looked at the food pyramid and discussed the food that is healthy for us to eat and the food we should not eat a lot of.
We were also busy preparing for our class assembly which was devoted to our IPC topic “Food”. We learned some songs and lines to say. We tried our best to get ready and we all performed well!
Week 3
This week was all about food groups. There are many different types of food. Food is typically divided into groups based on how healthy they are for you. We learned that there are 6 major food groups: Vegetables, Protein, Fruits, Grains, Dairy and Sugars. We got familiar with some fruits and vegetables while tasting them. We classified and described the look and feel of them. We also made some appetising food items out of salt dough. In Maths we read stories about sharing and enjoyed the challenge of being asked to help to solve a problem.
Week 2
This week we started our new IPC topic “Food”. People eat fruit and vegetables, some of us also eat chicken and fish. So, anything that we eat to live is called food. We need food as it helps our bodies to grow, remain healthy and gives us energy to do work. We found out that animals provide us with food stuffs such as milk, eggs, chicken, meat and fish and that wheat, rice, fruit and vegetables all come from a variety of plants. We planted some herbs (dill, coriander) and greens (spring onion, lettuce, and radish) in our classroom.
On Friday we had our first day at the swimming pool which was an exciting new experience for all that were there.
