Crazy Characteristics
We have been learning how to develop characters in our stories. We have used complex sentences and dialogue to show the characteristics instead of just telling the reader directly.

Climate Graphs
As part of out maths and topic work, we have been making climate graphs. We have learned that we can figure out which latitude a city is at just by analysing the information on the graphs. We learned about temperate and tropical temperature patterns and weather. We learned about the climate in our home and host countries and compared them.

Joining up Ideas
Today we made mind-maps to help us think further about Russia in 1900. These maps are diagrams with arrows which show how our ideas link together.

Painting the Onions
As part of out art work we have been learning how to build up layers of colour of different shades to give our pictures depth and three dimensional qualities. We are using this technique to paint a huge wall mural of Saint Basil's Cathedral.
We saw Saint Basil's Cathedral in Red Square in Moscow last week. Another name for this beautiful building is Cathedral of St. Vasily the Blessed. As part of our topic work, we will learn about the history of some buildings including this one.

This morning we arrived at school nice and early... 5:30am! Yawn! We took a taxi the airport, Roshino, and flew to Moscow. The flight was 2 hours and 40 minutes and there were no delays.
When we got to the airport we travelled by train to the city centre and then on metro to the hotel to drop off our bags. The metro is so huge and goes deep under ground. One of the stations has statues of famous people, and others have beautiful carvings, paintings and decorations like marble pillars and chandeliers.
Soon, we left the hotel and hopped on the metro to Red Square where we saw the onion domes (Saint Basil's Cathedral) and other beautiful buildings. We also went into the mausoleum where we saw Lenin's body - Dauren thought it looked like it was made of wax! We can't believe that he died almost 90 years ago!
After lunch (yummy baked potatoes) we went into the Kremlin and saw lots of old things. In the Kremlin, I (Dauren) liked all the really old carriages that the Tsars used to travel in - we saw them in the armoury. Their wood was carved with amazing symbols and patterns and then painted in gold. The wheels were very big - some were taller than Mr Frater. If you go too close to the carriages, a loud message tells you to not touch. We were not allowed to take any pictures in that room. I (Alan) liked looking at the armour and weapons n the armoury, especially the axes. We have lots of questions about the Kremlin, so Mr Frater says we will have to do some research when we get back to school.
Also in the Kremlin, we looked around some really old cathedrals. Their round roofs were very old and rusty, and they had dead bodies of the tsars. There was one crypt with gold on it, and another was from the year 1341... so old!
After the Kremlin, we had some more food, then went to the cinema, yay! Now we are back at the hotel and we are really tired. Have a look at some of the pictures from today.

Today we went to the International School of Moscow to meet some new friends. In ISM I found my old friend that I have met before in my old school. After that we went to the bowling alley and we met Genta’s family there. After playing, we went to the hotel. On the way back from the bowling place, there was so much rain going on outside.
I forgot to tell you the most exiting thing… we got to wear the new PE jumper and t-shirt!!

Today we visited the International School of Moscow. It was very interesting when were talking about bacteria and mould with Mr. Benians. It was also very interesting when we were playing a quiz about Tyumen and Moscow with Mr. Noack. After clubs at ISM we headed to the bowling alley and played for about 15 minutes until Genta came to play bowing with us. We played bowling but not for long because when they brought the pizza everybody gathered around the table and started eating. Then we took some pictures and went outside to get a taxi to get to our hotel.

This evening I just arrived in Moscow after a 14 hour flight from Jakarta with my parents. We took a taxi from Moscow Domodedovo International Airport to the International School of Moscow (ISM). It was a boring drive but when we finally arrived, I was jumping around and feeling great. Then I saw Mr. Frater coming out from the gates and we came with him because he took us into the bowling alley right beside I.S.M. When Dauren and Alan saw me, Alan said “Hello Genta!” and still feeling normal, but when Dauren met me he ran and leaped in me while saying “Genta!!” like a happy puppy. After that, we changed shoes and started bowling. We also met 2 teachers from I.S.M. their names were Mr and Mrs. Mason who were at the bowling place too. After about 1 and a half hours later, we called a taxi to take us back to the hotel. It’s so wonderful to meet with my best friends again.

Day 3 - Thursday 23rd May
![Picture](/uploads/1/1/2/5/11252166/7135463.jpg)
First, we went to the planetarium, which was the most interesting thing I’ve done today. Then we got on a metro to Tretyakovskaya where we sat next to a wonderful fountain and had some ice cream and other snacks. After that, we walked to the Art Gallery where Mr. Frater gave us a research task which took two hours to complete. The task was to find out information about some paintings.
After we had finished our research at the gallery, we headed to a restaurant called the Starlite Diner where we had burgers and fries. Then we walked to the ballet performance which was called the Nutcracker where children were preforming. I really enjoyed the day!

Today we went to the planetarium and then to an art museum called the Tretyakov Gallery. At the museum, we had lots of research to do when we were there. At the gallery, some of the paintings were so big that they covered up the whole wall. Some of the paintings in the art museum were painted at the same year and finished; most of them were painted by the same artist! Later, we went to the Moscow ballet dance and it was called ‘The Nutcracker’. Today was our last day in Moscow. The weather was terrible! It was pouring rain non-stop. Yesterday it was pouring much harder. The best thing of the Moscow trip was going to ISM because we made lots of friends there.

This morning I woke up at Novotel and was a busy day, but is was a fun day too. We had a late breakfast and the food was very good. Then we went on the metro to the planetarium near Noviy Arbat. Inside, it was like in the year 2020! Everything was very awesome and interesting too. Then we went to the metro again for a McFlurry in McDonalds and then to the park for some snacks. Then we walked to Tretyakov art gallery for a hunting game that Mr.Frater prepared. Then after that we went on the metro again to go to a restaurant similar to T.G.I. Fridays called Starlite Diner for some dinner. I ordered a Starlite cheeseburger and an Oreo milkshake which was extremely sensational. Then we walked to the ballet theatre to watch a 2 hour ballet. Then we took another metro again to our hotel to pick up our bags. Then we went on a metro AGAIN to the airport but on the way to the metro, I saw a drain cover moving up and down, I thought it was a zombie trying to get out. Then when we arrived we went on an Aeroexpress train to Moscow Domodedovo Intl. Airport. Then we flew back to Tyumen after a long and fun day in Moscow.

Here & Now,
Then & There
This term we will be learning about our host country, Russia. We will be learning about the geography and history of Russia and comparing this to our home countries. Our trip to Moscow next week will give us a great chance to visit museums, galleries, famous buildings, and listen to some classical music. Through this topic we will consider how our host and home countries are similar and different, and we will learn about how they are connected.
