Week ending 20th June 2014
Our final week together. We said goodbye to each other as we go our various ways. We have had a great year filled with fun and learning. It is always sad to see the end of a class but we wish everyone best wishes in their new adventures ahead.
During this week we looked at poetical terms and used them in our own poetry writing. The class were asked to draw their feelings as they listened to 'The Convergence of the Twain' by Thomas Hardy. The children then had to choose a picture and use this to write their own poems.

What a great week of learning and fun we have had. It is hard to believe how quickly this week has flown by.
First of all; here are some paintings from last week that we have now finished. We painted scenes from our ideal holiday related to our chosen specialism. Mahek painted a scene from her perfect paradise island holiday to represent her 'Mahek's Magic Moments' holiday company. Ruslan painted the perfect mysterious city to represent the best on offer from his 'Ruslan's Rustic Ruins' holiday company. Finally, Artur painted the perfect Winter Break Getaway resort for his 'Artur's Arctic Adventures company.
Don't forget! You can click on any of the smaller pictures above and below to enlarge them.
On Monday we had our Tennis Lesson.
On Wednesday our intrepid Tour Operators went deep into the Forest in search of rare plants to sketch and paint in the style of Margaret Mee
Voilla! Here are the finished masterpieces!
On Thursday, as part of our Music lesson in our IPC theme of 'The Travel Shop' we started looking at music from around the world. We explored percussion instruments using 'BOOMWHACKERS'!
We were very proud to see Mahek perform so beautifully on the Piano in the Y2 and 3 class assembly.
On Friday we had our Sports Day, Barbeque and Medals Award Ceremony.
(More photographs of the Sports Day will be published on the EVENTS page in a few days).
... and finally! Mr Finlayson's photograph of the week...
Week ending 30th May 2014
This week we have all been busy doing lots of end of year assessments. The children have worked very hard and shown great results. It is so rewarding to see the progress the children have made over the year. As a reward for so much hard work and great results we played a game on Thursday afternoon in preparation for our Games Club.
The class have also been riveted listening to our class book 'The Hobbit'. We are down to the last few chapters and it really is getting exciting.
Week ending 23rd May 2014
It has been another very busy week with so much learning and fun. We are really enjoying our English work, using the computers, our IPC topic on 'The Travel Show',Tennis and Athletics in P.E.
Move over Eric Clapton ....
In IPC we are creating the perfect theme park right here in Tyumen
Meanwhile; Mahek is dreaming up the ideal paradise holiday for her Mahek's Magic Moments holiday travel company.
In English we are working on 'Non-Chronological writing'. Here we are technical journalists writing a report for a Computer Magazine on the benefits and disadvantages of an I-Pad.
We do lots of other work in our English lessons ... like Comprehension.
We like to use the computers to help us present our work. Ruslan is researching and presenting information all about the museums of Tyumen. Artur is finding out about Transport in Tyumen. Then we will put all our work together to make a visitors guide book to Tyumen.
And finally ... Every Friday we have our Athletics lesson. This week we have been learning and practicing the five jumps. We then put some of these together in a sequence to practice the Triple-Jump.
Week ending 16th May 2014
Welcome back to school after our end of term break. In the new Summer Term we will be continuing in our theme of 'The Travel Shop'. This week we are turning Tyumen into a top tourist attraction and we are learning some amazing new skills in Computing, In English we have started to write our very own chapter of 'The Hobbit' as part of our theme on classic children's novels.
We had an excellent start to our new tennis lessons and it is great to be learning and playing a sport outdoors!
Week ending 18th April 2014
Our Travel Shop topic is now in full swing. We have been busy learning many new skills on the computer, like how to input data on a spread sheet and then sort and filter this information. We think we have learned some really useful skills for our Holiday tourism business.
We have also started planning to turn Tyumen into a major tourism centre by designing our own theme park.
The Tyumen Tourist board of directors start their theme park planning ...
In English we have started a new theme on the Children's Classic - The Hobbit. We are having an in-depth look at this incredible book. We are really enjoying working our way through each chapter. Here we are decoding the ancient Elvish rune language.
We really enjoy our guided reading sessions. This week we studied what it would be like to be stranded on a desert Island. Ruslan thinks it would be really fun! ...Until he discovered the Pirates came and chased him!
Next week we are going to focus on 'Thoughtfulness' as the theme for our 'Personal Goal'.
and finally ...! Friday home time has arrived! Have a great weekend everyone!
Week ending 11th April 2014
We have been busy launching full steam ahead with our new IPC topic on 'The Holiday Show'. We have been laying the ground work toward opening our very own Holiday Shop Business. The CET Holiday Shop has three departments - 1. Mahek's Magic Moments which sells Summer Holidays to exclusive locations. 2. Ruslan's Rustic Relics sells City Breaks to historical and interesting cities. 3. Artur's Arctic Adventures sells Winter Holidays for those who like Winter Sports. We are keeping the company secret for now until we are ready for the grand opening.
Week ending 4th April 2014
Artur collects another House Point while Mahek checks out this week's Personal Goal.
We are learning to play the Ocarina in our Music lessons.
This week brought our IPC topic on Fascinating Forces to an end. We really have had an amazing journey of learning over the past five weeks. For our Exit Point we went round some of the classes to show off our Gravity defying tricks and talk about some of the things we have learned.
To find out all about our next exciting IPC topic please see the link above - IPC Parents letter 7th April 2014
Week ending 28th March 2014
We have been working hard learning about the theories of gravity and exploring the concept of water resistance. We also enjoyed working with the parents during our open day and sharing some of the things we have been learning about.
We experimented to see who could build a boat that holds the most paper clips.
We entertained the parents with some French singing that Mr Edwards taught us at our French club and then we performed two songs on the Ocarinas.
Our parents came to our Open Day and we tested our knowledge of Gravity against what they knew. We won! Then we created some paintings depicting 'weightlessness'.
Miss Yana is helping us to learn our Gravity Rap Dance.
...and finally...
GYMNASTICS
Week ending 21st March 2014
The weeks are certainly flying by and our learning continues to increase each day. We have had another interesting week filled with fun, excitement and new discoveries.
We continued and developed further our work on friction.
We did some experiments to see which shoe provides the best grip.

We did some experiments to see which shoe provides the best grip.
We enjoyed a visit to the Evrika Science Centre this week to see many exhibits and try out some'hands on' experiments. It was great to see many of the theories that we have been working on in action. We tried out pulleys, gears, springs, levers and so much more.
GYMNASTICS
Week ending 14th March 2014
Our IPC topic on Fascinating Forces is gaining momentum. We have been learning about the Three Laws of Motion and conducting experiments to see these laws for our ourselves.
We made paper spinners and timed how long they took to hit the floor. Then we tried different designs to see if we could make them take longer to reach the floor.
We used a Spring Balance to measure the weight of several objects around the class. We then calculated the mass of each object in Newtons.
G Y M N A S T I C S
Week ending 7th March 2014
Please see the new IPC Curriculum letter above which will explain everything we are doing in our new IPC Topic all about Fascinating Forces.
This week has been all about Health - Food, Fitness and Hygiene. Every morning we have had our exercise class followed by an interesting lesson on either Healthy food, Fitness or Hygiene. We even visited the School Nurse who explained about all the vital work she does in our school and how she keeps us safe.
In our new IPC topic about Fascinating Forces we noticed that blowing across the top of a strip of paper actually causes it to rise up.
Then we noticed that if you blow under a piece of paper it actually pulls it down. We think this must be really useful when designing the wings of an aeroplane.
We were baffled and amazed at the gravity defying 'Sky-Hook'. It just does not seem possible that this little device can hold the weight of an object and then when placed on the tip of your finger it defies the law of gravity! Each child was given a Sky-Hook to take home to amaze their parents so we hope you have been just as amazed. We hope that your child has fully explained how this actually works. Ask them!
Our gravity defying feats did not stop there! We can even make a metal ring mysteriously rise uphill!
Our work on Fascinating Forces continued with some experiments to see how Pulleys can make light work of lifting heavy objects. We discovered that the more loops of rope wrapped around two poles makes it much easier to pull two children together.
We finished our week of scientific investigations on the forces that exist around us by looking at the soles of our shoes. We took paper and crayon rubbings so that we can make a 'Friction Chart' to see which shoes provide the best grip in slippery conditions.

Week ending 21st February 2014
We have had a super week participating in our International Book Week. We chose to study and learn all about Iceland but we also learned so much about Mongolia, Peru and New Zealand from the other classes too.
We each chose a specialism area to study and research all about Iceland. Artur became our Historian and learnt about Viking Settlers and Elvish folklore. Ruslan chose to be our Zoologist and studied about the animals that live in Iceland. Mahek became our Geographer and researched all about the landscape.
We presented the school book in a special assembly. Each class had to write and illustrate their own pages and through the week the story was passed on to the next class to continue the story.
We finished the week with our gymnastics lesson.
Week ending 14th February 2014
What a great week we have had packed full from beginning to end with so much learning and fun. Take a look at all the work we have enjoyed so much creating and sharing.
Monday morning Maths!
On Monday afternoon we designed, created and made our props for our shadow puppet theatre show.
On Tuesday Miss Yana helped us with our rehearsals with a presentation she had made in preparation for our visit to Lira School.
On Tuesday afternoon we rehearsed our 'Myth Dance'
On Wednesday we visited the Lira School of Art, Singing, Music and Dance. The Lira students gave us a tour of their school, showed us their art work, performed a song for us and presented us with gifts. We, in turn, delivered a presentation to them about our school, presented them with Friendship bracelets, performed our myth dance, presented our shadow puppet show and made a Friendship tree with them. The visit was part of a project by Miss Yana to promote links of cultural exchange and friendship with others in the city we live. We had a wonderful time and learnt so much. Thank you Miss Yana for this opportunity and all your hard work.
On Thursday we started to sketch out our paintings for our Sochi Winter Olympics painting competition. We have to choose our favourite mascot and paint the mascot participating in our favourite winter sport. The paintings will be displayed on the third floor.
On Friday we invited the other classes to come and see our Myth Dance and Shadow Puppet show.
Finally; here is our Myth Dance Video. Be sure to click the full screen button!
