Friday 24 June
As the term, and indeed the year, marches towards its conclusion, lots of different things are happening in school.
Over the past two weeks, we have reached the end of our final topic all about the Olympics - the children are all now fully versed with what the Games are all about, and are looking forward to watching the Rio spectacular in August.
Preparations for next week's final summer assembly are underway and, with most of the class having departed for their summer holidays, it will be a little different than previous years. However, everyone will be involved, whether there or not....
Also this week, Mr Harris led a demonstration of yoga to celebrate International Yoga Day, with all the children actively and enthusiastically taking part (if you can be 'enthusiastic' in yoga?)
Finally, we made a birthday book for Nurse Lena. Happy Birthday!
More to follow...

Friday 10 June
This week has been dominated by preparations for and the actual holding of our annual Sports Day. Go to the dedicated page via the front page of this website for lots of photographs and movies, which will be updated throughout the next week.
Tonight the Euro 2016 football championship gets underway and, for a bit of fun, all the children in the school have been randomly allocated a team to follow and cheer for. In our class, it looks like this:
Dasha - Wales
Ilya - Hungary
Lea - Albania
Christian - Portugal
Ahmed - Czech Republic
Uliana - Spain
Have a great weekend!

Friday 3 June
We are now into the final month of the academic year - I am amazed how fast it has gone. They do say time flies when you're having fun, and a lot of fun is on the agenda for the next four weeks.
This week, however, was definitely not about fun as the children sat a lot of assessment tests in Literacy, Maths and Spelling. I was very pleased with the maturity and independence from all children most of the time, especially as some of the tests were really challenging. However, the huge benefit to doing this is I now have live and accurate information of what all children can do well, and what needs to be worked upon for the rest of term. I will provide full details of this to parents on Monday.
Aside from tests, we continued with our Olympic topic, and created flags of our own countries to be used at next week's Sports Day opening ceremony. It should be a little different from previous sports days. We also evaluated whether Tyumen has the infrastructure to host the Olympics - we decided that location-wise it is appropriate but unfortunately doesn't have good enough transport links and probably not enough money.
Swimming is progressing well, Spanish (and Russian) lessons continue to be enjoyed by the children, and music remains a popular activity on Monday afternoons.
Have a great weekend - enjoy the sun!

Friday 27 May
Afternoon everyone - many apologies that last week's update seems to have got lost somewhere in cyberspace! It was uploaded last Friday but...where is it now? A gremlin in the system somewhere...
Anyway, let's get on with this week.
We are now two weeks into our exciting IPC Topic of THE OLYMPICS! So far, we have:
- looked at the differences between the modern and ancient Olympics
- created Olympic posters all about the traditions that underpin the games
- painted advertising posters for the Olympics
- matched the host cities to their countries and plotted them on a giant map
Next week we will start to look at the infrastructure of the Games, and how some cities are better suited than others to be hosts.
English and Maths has been dominated by revision for next week's end-of-year tests, which will take place on Monday and Tuesday. Children will be free to take them home later in the week or early the following week once they have been marked and commented upon. There is nothing to be worried about - these tests are (a) to see the progress made throughout the year, and (b) to inform the teacher regarding future planning for the rest of the term and into next year. They are not punitive, and certainly not to assess children against other children - each child in the class (and every child in the world) has strengths and weaknesses.
Have a lovely weekend!

Friday 13 May
A warm welcome back to everyone - I hope the ten-day holiday was relaxing and refreshing.
This week in school it has been Global Issues Week. The three classes studied a modern global issue that affects everyone in different ways - and in Year 3 & 4 we considered the problem of endangered animals.
We began by thinking about the animal kingdom, and the many different types of living creatures all around the world. From here, we started to consider how and why different animals have become endangered, and how even some have recently become extinct. This lead us to the most important aspect of the week - what we can do about it.
The children split into two groups and created an informative poster each on a selection of endangered animals around the world, and provided lots of ideas on how this can be addressed. The work produced was of a really high standard, and I was very impressed and pleased with everyone.
Images from the week can be seen below. Have a lovely weekend!
