Week 2
As you can tell from the pictures below, we've put our shoulders to the millstone and pushed ahead with some hard work this week. We began with our new topic, namely Water World, opening in a light-hearted fashion with some water based fun and games before getting on to the more serious business of experimentation. We investigated filtering, floating and sinking and even how plants can help to prevent soil erosion!
Mathematics saw us studying 3-D shapes while Literacy took us to the realm of rhyme and poetry. We also had our first swimming lesson. I did not realise we had a class of dolphins! In Music we explored and experimented (there's that word again) different ways of making sounds.
I was extremely proud of the children this week. They all worked diligently and even adapted to having the unfamiliar face of our visitor Mr. Lewis popping in and out of our classrooms.
Finally, happy birthday to Nika, who turned 6 this week and shared some cake with her friends as a part of the celebration.

Week 1
We kicked off the new term with our annual Global Issues Week. Reception and Year 1 decided to take a more Scientific approach to the problems of the world and focus on the natural disaster that is the volcano. We studied their form, how they work and even built our own working volcanoes! It was fantastic and we were very happy to tell our schoolmates all about our findings during assembly.

Week 7
It has been a truly wonderful week and a fantastic way to close out the half-term. As a part of our Health and Fitness week we have covered the skeleton and muscles, as well as consolidating the knowledge learned during a very worthwhile visit for Ms Chatar and Ms Mejthab, resulting in the beautiful booklets you will be able to enjoy over the holidays.
We also had an Easter Scavenger Hunt and created some beautiful art work with Ms Katya in celebration of the upcoming holiday.
To close I would like to wish everyone a restful holiday, if today's tired bodies during the closing rounds of the Bottomball Championship are anything to go by, it is a well needed and earned break. Enjoy!

Week 4
The weeks pass by so quickly. It is hard to believe we are just at the beginning of April already but it is sometimes just as hard to believe that the class I am lucky enough to teach are as young as they are. Some of the things we have tackled in Maths recently (addition and subtraction with carrying and regrouping) really have been quite challenging but the children take it all in and without complaint. They are developing into a very mature group.
In Literacy we have been comparing fiction and non-fiction via two books on the same topic from the same family, "The Storm Whale" by Benji Davies and "Big Blue Whale" by Nicola Davies.
It has also been a busy week for our Events Planning Group who this time turned their hand to the festival of Diwali. I won't reveal too much as there are some excellent videos to follow but it was a fantastic celebration! Well done to all!

Week 3
What an exciting week that was! Our new role play area is an event planning business centered on our IPC Topic "Let's Celebrate". This weeks celebration was Weddings and all of the children worked very well to give pretend bride and groom, Avi and Nurayat the day that they dreamed of! We had a 3 course meal, a live band and a magician to be thankful for as well as the sterling work of our decoration committee. Next week we shall be looking at the Hindu festival of light, Diwali.

Week 1
Hello everyone and welcome back! I can tell from all of the stories and positive energy on show that the children have had a fantastic holiday and are ready for some hard work.
This week has seen us take time to well....learn how to tell the time. The clock above the door has become the main focus of the children's energies and everyone has grasped this topic very well.
We have also had time to celebrate the national holiday of Ireland this week (Mr McKenna insisted) and learned all about St.Patrick! We even painted some decorative shamrocks on our faces!
A special mention to Amariah who this week achieved enough house points to receive her Ruby House Award! Well done!

What a productive week that was! Although we have not quite finished our Non-fiction textbook, work is well underway and I think you will all be happy with the results.
It has been a busy week overall with our Mathematics focusing on Number Patterns and IPC leading us to tales from ancient Rome. The children have been good with a special mention going to Dastan who has finally gotten enough house points to be rewarded with a bronze certificate!
Next week we begin serious preparations for our Winter Show with the school going into full rehearsal mode. You can help too by assisting the children in learning their lines and becoming familiar with the script at home.

Weeks 1 and 2
Hello everyone and welcome to our first website installment of the Winter Half-Term! We all returned fresh and relaxed after the break to find lots of fun, excitement and work waiting for us!
In Maths we have been studying our two times tables and 2D Shapes, Literacy has seen us continue with our phonics programme (Reception have already moved on to learning phonemes such as 'ie' and 'ay'!) as well as preparing to write a Non-fiction textbook which we hope to have ready for all parents read and enjoy by the end of next week.
In IPC we've been listening to and recreating the Greek stories of Icarus, Perseus and Heracles while also beginning to make plans for our own Greek myths! Expect an artistic surprise by next Friday!

What a fantastic week! I'm very proud of all of the children and how hard they worked in putting together Friday's performance. They did themselves, their school and their families proud! Thank you to all the parents who attended and to those of you who could not make it you can be certain that you were well represented.
Outside of all of the rehearsals we managed to fit in some time to begin our study of length in Maths, continue to learn and use new sounds in Phonics, practice our writing and dance to Ms Katya's favourite Latin Music!

Week 2
We are beginning to settle in now and the children's work is improving by the day. In Mathematics we practiced and refined our counting skills, focusing on numbers up to 20 with Reception and 100 with Year 1.
Literacy saw us read about a very forgetful cat named Mog. She was always getting up to silly things and we enjoyed reading about her escapades very much. The Year 1 children practiced their writing skills by adding adjectives to a sentence to help improve how they sound. There was a lot of phonics and letter formation practice.
IPC was buckets of fun! We learned about lots of different jobs, why they are important and what kind of tools help people to do their work. We even interviewed Miss Elena and Miss Kate to find out more about what they do. Once all of this information was stored and assimilated we put it to use in our role play area, which was set up to look like a school and a beauty salon. Next week we are going to be lifeguards and police officers!
In Music we learned a song about jobs, while it was also the first week of our Acrobatics lessons with Miss Tatiana. All of the children were very enthusiastic and did their very best in all areas.

Congratulations to Dastan who celebrated his 5th birthday this week!
And finally, a very special mention to Arina who was rewarded during assembly for her communication skills. Well done!
Until next week,
Mr McKenna.

Week 1- Friday
There is not a lot that I can say about what was a fantastic opening week which the pictures and videos below do not communicate. Everyone was amazing and contributed equally well to some wonderful displays while each child took their personal work very seriously. I am very happy and also very excited for the future weeks and months. A special thank must go to Ms Katya whose creativity and enthusiasm is vital in making our group what it is.

Week 1-Monday
Hello everyone and welcome back to what is sure to be another wonderful school year! As you all know this my first year with this group and I'm very excited about getting to know Sasha, Veronika, Yaroslava, Sophie, Arina, Dastan and Nurayat throughout our time together. From the fantastic stories I've heard about the summer holidays it sounds like that everyone should be refreshed and ready to work hard once more.
During this first week we will settle back in with some fun activities (some of which you can see below from Tuesday's photos) and revise our school routines. The serious work begins next week. You will find attached a copy of this terms timetable. Please note that the children will need their sports kit on both Mondays and Fridays, Library Day is Tuesday and Thursday as is Reading book day. Please ensure that you have the books that you need on those days.
Looking forward to the year ahead,
Mr McKenna
