Week 8
Last week was very exciting for us! We did experiments with different materials and tried to change them. We melted chocolate, made jelly, looked at fresh food and kept it for 4 days on the tray in the classrom to see how it changes.

We also melted Ice different ways: we rubbed small cubes of ice with our hands, we put a big piece of ice (hand shape) into the warm water, we also heated ice in Fondu (using a candle) and just left ice on a tray to observe how long it takes to melt without our help.

We also made soap and observed how it was changing!

Another exciting thing this week was our trip to a Glass Factory...
When we arrived there we had a lovely snack prepared by the glass factory canteen,
then we had a short lecture and tour around the factory to get an idea of how the glass bottles are being produced....
It was so interesting there but very noisy.... that's why we had ear plugs in....
after the tour we drwe some pictures of it for kind people and the whole organisation to thank them for their hospitability.

Week 7
Last week we have explored the Nature Changes. We looked at the plants and animals life cycle. Discussed how the Night time changes into a day time and did a beautiful creative work with the Seasons changes.
We got Sunflower and Beans seeds and planted them. Now we are going to take care of them and observe how they are growing.
Then we played some educational games about the rules of planting and growing Fruit or Vegetables and Flowers in the garden area.

We have also started to grow the animals. We placed the eggs in the water and then the animals hatched out of them. We are going to keep them in the water to see how big they can be. We are so excited!

We experienced the dark and compared it to the light. Then we discussed what changes can be during the Day and Night time and what we can do at these times. Then we illustrated our ideas in the creative work of "Day and Night".

The Season changes are very important for us as the weather changes and we must wear the appropriate clothing for a certain weather. Therefore we have spoken about every season and how there can be changes in every season. Then we created our own Seasons Posters with the special season weather.
Week 6
This week we have started our new IPC Unit "Changes" !
During this unit we are going to discuss the nature changes, how people change and do experiments with materials and see how they change too.

We played a game "All Change" which was our Entry Point . We moved around the classroom and put on a new dressing up item at each station. That is how we can change our appearance!

We have also looked at how people change when they grow. So we cut and stuck the pictures of people of different ages in order and discussed the changes in their appearance.
We created our own Fan of our Emotions as people change their emotions and feelings too.

We found out that we can change Nursery Rhymes and stories too.
We picked a Nursery rhyme and changed the lyrics to it to make it funny.
Here are a few examples:

At our Maths work we discovered how 2D shapes can be changed if we fold them.

We know that people change their clothes.
We looked at the clothes that we must wear according to the weather.
We also made our own paper dolls and dressed them up in the right order too.

Week 5
"Animal Homes"
It was the last week of our IPC unit "Houses and Homes". It has been a very exciting week as we visited an Ostrich Farm and looked at some animals and their homes.
All week we have been discovering animal homes. We even created the homes for some animals by ourselves. We made a kennel for a dog,a nest for birds or chicken, a cave for a bear and a barn for horses, cows and pigs.

We learned about the bees making honey in beehives and did this beautiful artwork.
As it is Spring time and the birds are flying back home from the warm places we made bird feeders for them and our kind carpenter built a birdhouse which we happily painted.

We read some Stories and looked at Non Fiction books about animals and their homes. Then we painted an animal in its home, for example a cow in a barn or a bird in a tree.

We counted the animals in their homes and practiced writing the numbers up to 5.

Week 4
"Places people live"
This week we have been looking at different places people live, especially at unusual types of people homes.

We created a whole class World Map to see the water, forest or jungle, desert or beach, snow on it.
Then we matched the pictures of homes to the places they could be found at and at the end we placed the photos of people homes on certain places of the Map: water, forest or jungle, desert or beach, snow.

Building own houses.
Wednesday has been an exciting day for us as it was an Open Day and we had our parents in the classroom. We explored some unusual places people live around the world and created one type of such people homes. We demonstrated cooperative skill by working together with our parents as a team.

We have looked at the houses that can move on the road and water and then created our own mobile houses.

Painting a house of the Future.
We shared our ideas about the houses of the Future, what they will look like and what role will be playing for us. Some houses have heart shapes, some can fly, some have buttons everywhere to switch on cartoons in any room.

In our Maths activities we have been learning some 3D shapes and building houses with them. We have also been counting and matching the pictures to the numbers up to 10.
Week 3
"Rooms in a house"
This week Pre-Nursery and Nursery have discussed and learned the rooms in a house. They have been enjoying acting and playing in the House role-play area all week.

We have also discovered a range of sounds that we could hear around house and created them by ourselves for the sound Bingo game.

During our types of rooms exploration we have been looking for different items and furniture that each room needs. We have also designed our own house on a 2D blueprint with all the rooms in it and then made a 3D blueprint of it in the box using plasticine.

As every room is different we also do different actions in each room.

We have a Doll House with two rooms. We decided to decorate it inside and outside. We painted it outside and inside and made wallpaper, floor tiles and carpets, curtains, painted the furniture.
It was very important for us to discuss the safety rules around the house, such as Kitchen Safety and Safety with all the types of Electrical Appliances.
Week 2
"Types of Houses"
This week we started our new IPC topic "Houses and Homes"!
We talked about the different types of houses that we know and looked at the images of some types of houses and then we went outside to walk around the school to explore and find some of them.

This week we have looked at Types of Houses.
We sorted them into the Houses (where people live) and Not Houses (shops, offices etc.); Old and New; by size: Large, Medium size and Small; by Material they are made of: wooden, brick, straw.

We always enjoy our Letters and Sounds activities.

Health Week
This week is devoted to our Healthy Way of Living in the whole school! Every Morning all classes together are going to do the Morning Exercises in the Hall.
Every day we are going to have different teachers in our classroom who will be talking to us and teaching us How to be healthy and keep fit, How to keep ourselves clean, How to take care of our teeth and Eat healthy food.

Friday
It was the last day of the Health Week and we had a wonderful assembly this morning as the teachers prepared some challenge for us to check how much we know and remember about How to be Healthy.

Thursday
Today we have spoken about our feelings and emotions and we think that they are also important for us as Being Happy helps us to stay Healthy too.

Wednesday
Today we had Mr Edwards in our classroom. He taught and reminded us how to wash our hands in an appropriate way.

Today we also looked at different ways of Staying Healthy and sorted out the images of the examples of Healthy and Unhealthy actions in our life. We hope that they will help us in our future development and growth.
This week brush our teeth even at school! Every day after snack we use our own toothbrushes with the children toothpaste and follow the order steps of Brushing Teeth.
Healthy activities and role play in the classroom
On Tuesday
Mr Finlayson visited us to see how good we are at Keeping our fit. We had to go around the school and do some physical tasks in different classrooms!
We also had a tour in the Medical Room today and Miss Lena the Nurse has shown us the equipment and tools that she has got there and demonstrated us how to use them.
On Monday
Mr McNab taught us how to take care of our teeth. We watched the educational video about how it is Important to brush the teeth and the best way of doing it. Then we practiced brushing our teeth, created our own toothbrushes, made beautiful smiles with the white teeth and cleaned the dirty teeth.

Week 6
Welcome to International Book Week!

During this week we have been learning all about New Zealand and watching the online Story Books from this country.
As usually at the end of the International Book Week we performed at the School Assembly and told our parents and the audience about different facts about New Zealand that we have learnt and showed our art work.
We also did a Haka Dance and presented our non-fiction book about New Zealand!
To look like Maori people we painted our faces and wore special Maori skirts.

After the Assembly we had a whole school International snack, which was very delicious.
We also had an international costumes parade in Early Years!
During the week we explored Maori Art and created our own Maori Masks, Necklaces and Bookmarks.

During the week we had to do a Book Quiz which included the book covers hunt. We were walking around the school and looking for the book covers then we were supposed to correspond them to some country.

We found out that Kiwi birds live in New Zealand so we decided to create our own kiwi bird photoframes and plasticine kiwi birds models.

As a part of our IPC Unit "Let's Pretend!" it would be great for children to attend the Puppet Theatre or any Theatre performing a Children Play. Unfortunately there are no Children Plays and performances in the theaters on the working days, they are only on the weekends. If you wish to visit them on any weekend

Week 5
This was the last week of the IPC unit
"Let's Pretend!".
During this week we have focused on the story "Pinocchio", we read and watched it.
We have also been exploring different types of Puppets from around the world such as water puppets, sock puppets, hand or finger puppets, stick puppets, shadow puppets and Marionettes or string puppets.

The Exit Point of the IPC Unit "Let's Pretend!" was our visit of Year 4/5 Shadow Theatre . We could see many shadow puppets in it. It was amazing!
Being busy with creative work making a stick puppets, hand or sock puppet, split-pin and string Pinocchio puppet.

We even created our own small puppet theatres out of the empty boxes.
Acting out by using handmade puppets, story blocks, fairy tales and stories and imagination.
During our Maths activities we were focusing on sequence of colours, patterns, shapes, size and measuring and comparing the length of Pinocchio's nose.

We also made a salt dough Pinocchio with the length of the nose that we liked.
At dance class we pretended that we were Marionettes and were moving like them. Then we revised how to point the toes, do gallops, skips and swing in a boat with a partner.
Week 4
This week we have been reading, listening, watching, singing, acting out various fairy tales and creating own stories.
The main focus of the Week 4 was "The three little pigs" story and we have done many activities connected with it.

On Friday we baked the little pigs together with Reception class!
First we made the face and then we added a nose and ears. Finally, we added some chocolate for the eyes! We can all be Big Bad Wolves and eat the Little Pigs!

We have done a very hard work while building the houses for the little pigs and using different materials. During the activity we have also demonstrated our manipulative skills and creative thinking, such personal goals as cooperation and resilience .
It's time to test our houses! WE HUFF AND WE PUFF......
We have thought of our own ideas for a different ending of a story "The three little pigs" and then painted them. Here they are:The wolf has eaten the three little pigs anyway, The wolf and the little pigs have become friends, The wolf ran away to the forest, The wolf went through the chimney of a brick house and got into the box so that the pigs could catch him.
We have done a fun Maths work! We went around the ground floor and counted the doors, windows, sinks, chairs, tables.
Using the Interractive White Board for doing morning self registration, creating houses for the little pigs and for people.
Week 3
This week was devoted to Superheroes!
Children brought their favourite superhero costumes and fancy dresses to school to act out and pretend. We have spoken about some the Superheroes that we know and then got familiar with some new Superhero names too.We have also discovered Real Life Heroes, people who help us and discussed why their professions belonged to Heroes.

We discussed what Superheroes we would like to be and then did some art and craft work to create own Superhero Suits for ourselves.

We dressed up in Superhero costumes and got different missions to do. Then by discussing and drawing a picture we described how we helped the people who were under the danger and explained what special power and equipment we have used.

We also created our own superhero masks!
We also love doing Letters and Sounds work by wearing our big listening ears, Maths activities, Going to Music classes, Playing together as a team in the classroom as well as in the hall when it's inside playtime.
Week 2
This week we have learnt all about Castles and pretended to be a prince or a princess, a king or a queen, a knight and a witch. We read various stories about these Kingdom characters, discussed their responsibilities and did a lot of craft, Literacy and Maths work connected with them.

We created a crown for ourselves and decorated it so that it would look like a Queen or King, Princess or Princesses crown.
This week we really enjoyed
- Counting, recognising the numbers and sticking the crowns in order;
- Matching the shapes in the pictures of a Castle and a flag;
- Constructing Castles with junk;
- Drawing and writing a book about the Queen, King, Prince and Princess. Making a shield for a Knight.

We also painted the clothes for Queen,King, Prince or Princess on our photos.
Today we used marshmallow to make a Castle Cake. It was a good baking experiences and practice in a team work for us.

Week 1
This term our IPC unit is "Let's pretend" and we are going to pretend to be a prince or a princes, play with puppets, act out fairy tales and stories, then discover other new things that we can pretend to be or to do.

This week we pretended that we flew on a magic carpet and it took us to different places such as Space, North Pole, Rainforest and Desert.
We also created our own flying magic carpets
We thought of ideas where we would like to fly on the magic carpet. Some people wanted to fly over the houses, some towards the stormy sea, some to Africa or North Pole.
We enjoy working hard in our classroom as well as playing in different areas and pretending and acting out in the role play area.
